
Meet the Characters
Michael Dorfling is a 22-year-old Journalism student at Rhodes University. He was born in Uitenage and started his schooling career here. Mickey is a lead character in the film Eina! which is a documentary about the effects of corporal punishment. He decided to do this film because he felt it was necessary for him to create an awareness in this social issue. Also he experienced corporal punishment himself when he was in Muir College and this affected him very badly. Therefore he needed to create dialogue around this issue as people seem to turn a blind eye on it.

Hombakazi Denge is a 22-year-old BA at Rhodes University, she was born and raised in Bizana in the Eastern Cape. In the film she takes us to her journey of her past when she was corporally punished ever since she started schooling, from primary school to high school it was a constant thing. She tells us how this affected her and how she could have turned out had she not experienced it throughout her schooling years.


Amanda Khoza is a 21-year-old BA student at Rhodes University, he was born and raised in Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu Natal. In the film he states that in the school he went to in primary school he started experiencing corporal punishment. The reason he was beaten constantly at school was because he was coming from a model c school and he could not write his language properly. This affected him emotionally and also his personality because he felt like he was not good enough. In the film he takes us to his journey to healing and confronting his past.

Eddith Ngcobo is a 19-year-old 1st year student at Rhodes University. He is also from Pietermaritzburg. In the film he shows us his rapping talent as he is taking us to a journey that he never told anyone about. Eddith tells us how he experienced corporal punishment both physically and emotionally at his High School. All of this broke his spirit as he believed the words the teachers would instill on them.
